EGHAM HOLLOWEGIANS 5- 12 Woking
Both
teams met on a sunny Saturday afternoon on which many an English
and French man will remember for a long time, but before that we
had a cracker of a game at home against Woking who I may add are
a league above us.
Right
from the start both teams where hard at it and it was Woking who
took an early lead through some poor tackling from us, with the
conversion they took a lead of 7 points which lasted to nearly the
end of the first half.
To
our credit we did not let our heads go down in fact we started to
play some great rugby bearing in mind that this was a scratch team
made up that morning we found our selfs encamped in the Woking
22 for the last 10 or so minutes of the half, with some great forward
play we got to within 5 meters of the try line after some battering
away Woking conceded a penalty a quick tap and go and a pass resulted
in Sam walker diving over to bring it back to 7 5 James Cope could
not convert the kick so at half time it was looking a lot better
for Egham.
The
second half seen Woking come storming back in to the game and would
have stretched their lead several times if it where not for some
try saving tackles from Martin Hayne and Jonny Holloway both stoping
and turning over ball right on the try line, but the pressure was
taking its toll and after a couple of hard scrum ages on our own
5 meter line Woking went over with only a minute to go failing to
convert brought the score to12 5 but we where not finished yet we
had to win the restart which we did and keep the ball alive to stand
a chance of getting a try from in side our own half jonny Holloway
took the ball from the bottom of the ruck and made a mazy run cutting
through the Woking team right into there 22 with one player to beat
it looked if we where going to do the impossible and score a try
but it was not to be Jonny being tackled to the ground and the supporting
players knocking on the ball brought what was a cracking game to
a end.
